Moving My Fics To SquidgeWorld

TLDR: I previously planned to archive my fics from here (and the other sites and forums I post on) to AO3. I'll instead be doing so on SquidgeWorld. My reasons are listed below the cut but this is something I probably would have done anyway, I'm just not happy using AO3 as my fic archive.

Just a quick note to say that I'm not going to be archiving my fics on AO3 anymore. I might still use that site for uploading fics that are part of a specific fanfic challenge if needed, but I won't be using it as a general archive after this.

I've been thinking about this decision for almost a full year now, but all the recent controversy has finally pushed me into making that choice. Here's the main reasons I no longer want to be using AO3:
  • The AO3 staff has announced their decision to allow AI-generated "fanfics" on the site. They have made it clear that they will not be changing this decision.
  • The information that has been brought to light regarding the targeted harassment and racist attacks happening on the site. More importantly, though, it was AO3's handling of this information that has prompted me to stop supporting their platform.
  • The recent allegations made against the OTW by several of their former and current volunteers regarding how the organization handled the May 2022 attacks and their failure to provide sufficient support or information to the volunteers affected. And, more importantly, how the OTW has decided to respond to these allegations.
Even aside from these points, I've never been happy with using AO3 for my fanfic hosting. My issues with the site are mostly personal (issues with the interface, the tagging system, staff's repeated lack of transparency on financial issues, tags constantly getting incorrectly wrangled and staff refusing to fix the issue when brought to their attention, etc.). These have all been contributing factors to why I've been on the site since 2016 and have archived less than thirty of my fics on there to this date.

As I said, I might still post certain fics there if it's part of fandom exchanges, challenges, or events. But otherwise I'll just be posting here, on forums, and anywhere else I was already doing so. For archiving, I'm going to be using SquidgeWorld for now unless I find something else.
