Small Web September Check-In 1: Links!

We’ve reached the first check-in point for Small Web September! How is everyone doing so far? Whether you’re just getting warmed up or are already ticking off goals (or maybe you just found this and want to join – welcome!), come and share your progress in the comments of this check-in.

The theme of this week’s check-in is links! Earlier this year, I came across Coy ([personal profile] osteophage)’s link compilation in praise of links, which led me down a rabbit hole of reading various essays about the importance of hyperlinking and being a good steward of the web. This includes not making your own site into an effective dead end, but sending people on to interesting destinations via links that you’ve included there.

I’ve always been a lover of curating cool webpages and sites, but it struck me that I wasn’t actually doing much of this on my own little website – now, it’s a personal fanworks archive, so you could argue that linking out to random pages is a bit out of step with the purpose of it. However, it broadened my thinking about where I could start adding more links: from archiving rec lists to linking out to gifts that other fans had made for me over the years.

So, the discussion starter for this check-in is: how do you link, and to what? Do you have a link hub or set of interesting finds? Would you like to do more with links?

Questions & Suggestions September & August

(I keep forgetting to do these, so feel free to poke me via DM or on the discord. You can also keep posting to the most recent one.

This is the place for any questions or suggestions you have for [community profile] rainbowfic , [community profile] rainbowlists , and [community profile] rainbowlounge . This includes 'how does this work?', 'does this supply or style count for this?' and 'what are the limits on this?'

There are a good amount of things that have fuzzy limits or definitions and that's okay. You're allowed to use your judgement of how to use a list, supply, style, etc. But I also want to acknowledge that not everyone is comfortable with ambiguity and that some people need more concrete answers. So this is where to get those (and then it'll be added to the appropriate page). But there are no tag/prompt/writing police here

Anyone can answer (please, if you've been here longer, jump in and help). Please take time to check what the different [community profile] rainbowlists pages say because they might have the answer, but don't be afraid to ask something that seems obvious: it may be that I need to clarify a description or q&a. Checking the tags on [community profile] rainbowfic to see how something has been used is also a good way to get answers, or at least precedent.

I'll be using these as a resource to find things that need to be added or improved in the q&as on Rainbowlist

Lonely Prompts Sunday, Week 36 [DW Edition]

[ If you're interested in being a Tuesday-Thursday guest host, you can sign up here. Thanks! ❤ ]
↑↑↑ Available dates:
September 9 & 11
September 16 & 18
[Lonely Prompts Week]
September 30 & October 2

Good morning/afternoon/evening, and welcome to this week's Lonely Prompts adoption day. :3 If this is your first time at [community profile] comment_fic on a Sunday, you can either request previous prompts to be filled or share your recent fills for prompts. (Or do both, of course!) ✎

How to look for prompts:
We have plenty of prompts that might just nibble away at your brain today. You can browse through the comm's calendar archive (here on LJ or here on DW) for themed and Free For All posts, or perhaps check out Sunday posts for Lonely Prompt requests. (Or, you can be like me, and try to save interesting prompts as you see 'em... and then end up with multiple text doc files full of [themes + links + prompts] that you can easily look through and search for keywords.) Multiple fills for one prompt are welcome, by the way! Oh, and you are very likely to find some awesome fills to read as well, and wouldn't it be nice to leave a comment on those lovely little writing distractions? ~_^

Whichever you decide to do, prompt or fill (or both), please remember:
1. You can only request five prompts to be filled.
2. You can request no more than three prompts from a particular fandom.
3. You can, however, fill as many prompts in as many fandoms as you'd like!
4. In the subject line, be sure to say whether it is a request or a fill!
5. You must link back to wherever the prompt is in the community archive (whether filling or requesting), and, if you're filling the prompt, please post the fill as a reply to the original prompt.
6. If you are filling an "any/any" prompt, please let us know what fandom you've written it for (or if it's original!).
8. If there are possible triggers in your story, please warn for them in the subject line!
7. If you've filled any lonely prompts in the past week, this is the place to share them!
9. Finally, please remember to add your prompt fills to our AO3 collection: Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2025 collection. See further notes on this option here.

How to link:
[a href="http://comment-fic.livejournal.com/449155.html?thread=70682755#t70682755">MCU, Tony Stark/Pepper Potts, She's wearing daisy dukes and one of his button-down shirts.[/a]
(change the brackets to "<" and ">" respectively)
or:
http://comment-fic.livejournal.com/139897.html?thread=30155641#t30155641
Burn Notice, Sam/Michael/Fi, "It's always been you. And it's always gonna be you."

We are on AO3! If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3, please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2025 collection.

If you are viewing this post on our Dreamwidth site: please know that fills posted here will not show up as comments on our LiveJournal site, but you are still more than welcome to participate. =)

If you have a Dreamwidth account and would feel more comfortable participating there, please feel free to do so… and spread the word! [community profile] comment_fic

A friendly reminder about our posting schedule: Themed posts for new prompts go up on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Saturdays are a Free for All day for new prompts of any flavor. Sundays are for showing Lonely Prompts some love, whether by requesting for someone to adopt them or by sharing any fills that you've recently completed.

Bingo 03.25 - Week 1

And it begins! The first week of our Bingo Challenge is open now.

The sign-up for the challenge and the team challenge will still be open until September 10, so it is not too late to join.

Try to fill at least one square every week to keep the challenge running. You can fill up to five squares (= one bingo) every week.

Your Bingo Card can be found here.

Short reminder of the rules
(for more information, visit the general BINGO post)

Possible Bingos:
General:
Row (example: B 1+2+3+4+5)
Column (example: 1 B I N G O)
Vertical line (example: B 1 / I 2/ N 3 / G 4 / O 5)

Corner Squares + Middle (B 1+5 / O 1+5 / N 3)
Middle Cross (I 3 / G 3 / N 2+3+4)
Middle Vertical Cross (I 2/4 / G 2/4 / N 3)

Specials:
Free Bingo = five squares of your choice
Blackout = all squares from the card

Let's play
You may create fandom works, original works, and real-person works.
Every square requires one complete work; single chapters are allowed as long as they can be read as stand-alone works.
Don't mix up two or more squares in one work.
Bingos can overlap, but if you re-use a prompt for a second bingo, you will have to create a new work for the square.

Fills Minimum
Every square comes with a minimum of:
100 words
1 haiku
2 icons (100x100)
1 graphic work bigger than an icon

Wildcards
At the beginning of the challenge, you will get five wildcards. You can use them in three different ways:
1. If you have missed a week, you can play a wildcard, and you are allowed to complete five extra squares in the following week(s).
2. Swap two prompts from your card (example: prompt N5 goes to I2)
3. Delete a prompt from your card and use one of your choice from the prompt list.

Team Challenge
If you have signed up, please visit your team Alpha or Omega to play.

You can still sign up here until September 10.

Posting for week one officially ends Sunday, September 14 17.00 UTC. There is a grace period until the week is finally called 'closed'.
