Found this cool yearly wrap up questionnaire for fanfic writers on tumblr (here) and thought it looked fun. Posting my fills here because long posts are harder to write out on tumblr -- and also in case anyone on DW would like to snag it and fill it out for themselves. :)

1. How many fics have you worked on since January?
56 fics

2. What's something new that you tried in a fic this year?
Wrote a couple pieces in present tense (which was hard; how do people do it??) and one stream of consciousness fic.

3. What piece of media inspired you the most? (This can be the fandom you wrote the most for, the one that spawned the most ideas, the one you thought about the most, etc.)
According to my writing tracker spreadsheet, the fandom I wrote for the most this year was Psych. However, since a lot of those were old WIPs I was working on, I'd say the fandom that generated the most new ideas this year was The Librarian movies.

4. How many fandoms did you write for this year?
A total of 22 fandoms. Mostly Psych, Superman comics, The Librarian, ER, and The Hitman's Bodyguard.

5. What ships captured your heart?
I write mostly genfics. But the ships I did write this year were Clark/Lois (Superman comics), One/Seven (6 Underground), and Flynn/Nicole (The Librarian).

6. What characters captured your heart?
Quite a few this year, actually. Old favorites that I've returned to writing are Shawn Spencer (Psych), Rodney McKay (Stargate), and Flynn Carsen (The Librarian). New characters that have taken over my brain are Michael Bryce (The Hitman's Bodyguard), John Carter (ER), One and Seven (6 Underground), and Scott McCall (Teen Wolf... don't judge me).

7. Did you write for any new fandoms or ships this year?
New Fandoms: The Hitman's Bodyguard, 6 Underground, ER, Venom, Kyle XY, Teen Wolf, and The Adam Project.

8. What fic meant the most to you to write?
This fic I did for a Librarian gift exchange. Idk it's just the fic I'd say I'm proudest of having written this year. Also, the longest thing I've ever contributed to a writing exchange.

9. What fic made you feel the happiest to work on?
Probably getting a chance to pull "The Chess Master - Part 2" back out of hiatus. It's been a WIP for like four years now and it felt good to be writing it again and having fresh ideas for that verse again.

10. What fic was the most satisfying to finish writing?
Not sure if this counts, but I finished editing "Chess Master - Part 1" this year and I was so so ridiculously proud to finally have it done and ready to archive. It was originally written several years ago, but it's been sitting in the 'first draft' stage for ages and I'm relieved it's finally in a state that I can be happy with.

11. What fic was the most difficult to write?
I don't know why, but Damage Control gave me a lot of trouble to write.

12. What fic was the easiest to write?
No One Left Behind, for some reason this one just popped into my brain and I sat down and got the whole thing written out and posted in a couple hours.

13. What were your shortest and longest fics posted this year?
Shortest - Mine a double drabble bit of Clois fluff
Longest - Librarian gift exchange fic that somehow turned out at over 17k words!

14. What were your go-to writing songs?
I listened to "Blinding Lights" by the Weeknd on constant repeat while working on The Chess Master (both writing part two and editing part one). Beyond that, I have different playlists for different moods.

15. What was the hardest fic to title?
Oh yikes. So many of them! During the October writing challenges this year I had a bunch that just got a random word or phrase slapped on them because I couldn't think of any good titles.

16. What's your favorite title of the year?
Of Magic, Mathematics, and Spacial Awareness - a Librarian fic that is currently still a WIP but hopefully done by next summer.

17. Share your favorite opening line
"Well," Rodney said, mostly out of a need to fill the silence, "This can only end well." --- from this SGA fic

18. Share your favorite ending line
Darius was alive. Amelia was alive. He could rest now. --- from this Hitman's Bodyguard fic, because I think it just sums up Bryce's character rather nicely

19. Share your favorite piece of dialogue
I really like this exchange from an old Angel fic that I finally pulled out of my WIP folder and finished this year:
"There’s a difference between repentance and forgiveness; the one doesn’t always guarantee the other. I really hope she makes it. I do. But all the remorse in the world doesn’t entitle her to my forgiveness.”
There was a long, heavy pause before he got a reply, soft and impossibly sad.
“And for me?”
Wesley smiled grimly and took another sip of his drink. “I suppose that will simply take time.”

20. Share your funniest line
I'm terrible at writing comedy, so I generally just steer clear of it. I do like a lot of the dry sarcasm used in the narration for "Making Wishes In The Dark", but I wouldn't count those as "funny" lines exactly.

21. What's something that surprised you while you were working on a fic? Did it change the story?
When I first started "Chess Master - Part 2" several years ago, I only had a vague idea of the plot I wanted to do. No outline, and no real idea how to make the plot happen. This year, I finally sat down and started writing it out chapter by chapter. And somehow, along the way, the story just sort of spontaneously generated into existence. It isn't going to be what I'd originally planned at all, but I really like this new direction much better.

22. What writing programs did you use? Did you write by hand?
I used Dabble Writer almost exclusively throughout this year. About a month ago, I did sign up to Ellipsus on a whim to see what they had to offer, and it's not bad so far. Dabble fits my writing needs better, but I could see myself using Ellipsus for longer/slower projects.

23. If you had to choose one, what was THE most satisfying writing moment of your year?
Completing NaNoWriMo for the first time ever. Been participating for about five years and never even came close before. So proud of that 50k win!

24. Did you do anything special to celebrate finishing a fic?
After NaNo ended, my local writing group had a celebration party at a nearby coffee shop.

25. How did you recharge between fics?
Still working on figuring out how to do that. Normally, I just write fics until I burn myself out on writing. Then I crash for a while and just consume fandom stuff (whether the actual shows/movies or other people's creations) for a while, until I eventually feel ready to dive back into writing again.

26. Did you create fanworks other than fic?
Yep! I made a crazy ton of icons, moodboards, and other graphics this year. Also made some fanvids! Didn't do any fanart in 2024, but maybe I'll get back into that again next year.

27. How many events did you take part in? (bangs, exchanges, ship weeks, zines, prompt memes, they all count!)
One fic exchange, one bang, two bingos, and seven prompt challenges.

28. If this were an awards show, who would you thank?
Probably my local writing group. Without them, I never would have been able to get through this year.

29. What's left on your to-do list for 2024?
Nothing really. I already hit my wordcount goal for the year, so I'm just taking it easy until after the new year begins.

30. What would you like to write next year?
Ooh, good question. I would love to get some of my older WIPs dusted off and finished. There's a bunch that I never really lost enthusiasm for, just free time and motivation, so I would like to get them finally done.
