I had a ton of fun doing the FicWIP's "Year in Fanfic" last year, and I saw they posted their new 2025 version on tumblr (here) so I'm giving it a shot. Figured I'd share it here so anyone not on Tumblr could have a chance to snag it and fill it out as well.

Blank template is at the end if anyone else would like to fill out.

And another year of NaNo has come to an end. I thought I had this one for a while there, but sadly work and health got in the way. Final word count came to 39,239. Oh well. Hoping for better word counts next year.

And my hopes of hitting 50k have gone up in flames lol. I really thought I had it, but work has been extra busy this month and it's leaving me too exhausted to write anything, let alone a 1600 per day average. Current word count: 33,085. I still passed my initial 25k goal, but there's no way I'm catching up to the full goal at this point.

I'm actually surprised at where my word count is at this point. It managed to stay pretty even with the daily goal for 50k total, slipped a little bit over the last couple days, and then jumped back up there after a very long writing marathon at my local library. Currently sitting at 26,041 words! I know I'm technically only aiming for 25k this year, but I'm starting to think I can actually hit the full 50k goal.

I'm doing NaNoWriMo again this year. My local group rallied together last year and made our own November novel writing event when the "official" organization went under (info here but the tldr is that they made some truly terrible decisions, including multiple alleged crimes, before finally shutting down). We've become even more organized this year, with our own website and discord server and plenty of in-person events. I'm so happy we were able to save our little group because it's meant a lot to me over the years.

I set my initial goal for the month at 25k - half of what a normal NaNo goal is. This is so I don't burn myself out, as my work has become really busy and I've been dealing with some family health emergencies the last few months. I figured if I do manage to hit the 25k before the month ends, I can switch to 50k as a stretch goal.

Week one is over now and I'm actually really happy (and surprised) by the progress I made so far. Not only am I on track for my 25k goal, but I'm also currently on track for completing the full 50k goal! As of finishing writing on Nov 9th, my total word count is at 16,272. Not sure if I'll keep that momentum going all month, but I'm very happy for now. :D

Rules: How many letters of the alphabet have you used for starting a fic title? One fic per line, ‘A’ and 'The’ do not count for 'a’ and ’t’. Post your score out of 26 at the end, along with your total fic count.

A — Are We Saying Hello Or Goodbye? (Eureka, Zane/Jo)
B — Be Careful What You Bottle Up (Hitman's Bodyguard, Kincaid & Bryce)
C — Coming Home To You (KPDH, Rumi/Jinu)

E — Every Robin Must Learn To Fly (Batfamily, Dick & Damian)
F — Feline Acquisition 101 (Community, Jeff Winger)
G — Got To Have Faith (DC Comics, Clark/Lois)
H — Hyperfocus (Psych, Shawn Spencer)
I — In Hindsight (Psych, Shawn & Gus)
J —
K — Kissing The Sunrise (Superman & Lois, Clark/Lois)
L — Let's Love Like There's No Goodbyes (DC Comics, Clark/Lois)
M — A Man Called PSYCH (Psych, Shawn & Carlton)
N — No One Left Behind (6 Underground, One & Team)

V — A Very Long Night (Stargate Atlantis, Lorne's Team)
W — What Would You Trade The Pain For? (Teen Wolf, Scott McCall)
X —
Y — Y2K Part Two (Wildstorm Comics)
Z —

22/26 Not bad! While putting together this list I realized that I have way too many fic titles starting with the letters T and W. And apparently I've reused a couple titles more than once - oops. The rules say to also mention total fic count but that'd be a lot of work since my fics are scattered across dozens of different sites, and I'm way too lazy to track them all down lol.

Here's the meme for anyone else who would like to try it:

I had fun with this last year so figured I'd try it again. :)

Since there are so many fanfic prompt challenges in October hosted on Tumblr, and they all look fun to do, I mix and match my favorite prompts from each event and basically try to get as many prompts filled as I can during October. It's also a great way to prep for NaNoWriMo, by getting into the habit of writing every day.

This year, I'll be using these prompt lists. Sharing them here in case anyone else would like to give one (or more) of these challenges a try:
Flufftober - 31 day challenge to write fluff. This year, there's some additional challenges and a ton of alt prompts to choose from as well.
Whumptober - The tumblr classic. 31 day challenge for writing whump and hurt/comfort fics. Four prompts to choose from each day.
Angstober - Angst writing challenge
Cozytober - Autumn-themed writing event hosted on AO3. I don't use that site anymore but the prompts are really good, so I just post my fills on tumblr instead.
Fictober - 31 dialogue prompts
Darktober - hosted by the Monthly Writing Challenges blog. 31 dark, angsty, and spooky prompts for October.
OC-tober & Ominous October - Two different prompt events hosted by the Prompt Foundry blog.

I'm participating in the Flufftober bingo event and one of the prompts on my card is "Sort all your WIPs" so this post is my attempt at doing that. I'm not going to bother listing any WIPs that have been completely abandoned, only ones that I still intend to finish (someday).

Found this cool yearly wrap up questionnaire for fanfic writers on tumblr (here) and thought it looked fun. Posting my fills here because long posts are harder to write out on tumblr -- and also in case anyone on DW would like to snag it and fill it out for themselves. :)

...and it's done!! I lost track of posting updates at around the halfway point, but that's because I was fully focused on my writing.

Total words: 50,061!!!

I won NaNo for the first time ever. I'm so happy and relieved and also just dead exhausted. Will need to take a very long break from writing for a while. I'm happy I did it, and I'm actually really sad it's over, but also I never want to see another word doc again lol.
pebbleinalake: (hawkeyes)
NaNo Day 16 and I'm finally caught up!! More than that, I'm ahead on my wordcount! My local writing group hosted a twelve hour writing marathon today at a nearby library and we all wrote like crazy. I went into the marathon 7k words behind, and came out almost 1k ahead. So happy right now. My original goal for this year was to simply hit the halfway point, but now I've just hit that and it's only halfway through the month. Maybe this will be the first year I actually complete NaNoWriMo?

NaNo Day 11 and I'm finally starting to catch back up! So close to reaching the official daily goal, I'm hoping to get there by this weekend.

My stats from Trackbear:

pebbleinalake: (psych)
Oof, writing is hard. Why is this the hobby I've chosen to let consume my life?

I got off to a decent start this month. On Nov 5th, I was not only on track, but actually ahead of the wordcount goal by a few hundred. Sadly, that didn't last long. Between trouble at work and dealing with a family emergency, I did almost no writing on the 6th and 7th, putting me now several thousand behind.

I've found I write best when writing with a group of friends. Thankfully, my regional group meets twice a week for writing sessions. Hoping I can get at least somewhat caught up at the next writing event. In the meantime, I'll keep trying my best to chip away at the now mountain of words that have piled up in front of me.

On a side note, I've been using the Trackbear app for keeping track of my wordcount and here is the app's summary for where I'm at as of this morning:

pebbleinalake: (sg daniel (book))
With the end of October and beginning of November, I'm finishing out my Octoberfics challenge fics and immediately pivoting into NaNoWriMo. Because who needs sleep?

I already covered in this post on my blog how I'm not going to be participating in the "official" event this year, but will still be doing the 50k in November challenge with my local regional group. I'm currently using a combo of google spreadsheet and the Trackbear software to track my wordcount so I don't have to use the official website.

Anyway, since all my free time will be taken up with writing for the next month, I don't expect I'll be very active over here during that time. I'll also probably not be posting any new fanfics since all my writing energy needs to go into my NaNo project.

Good luck to anyone else doing the challenge (or challenges of your own) in November. Happy writing!
pebbleinalake: (nightwing blue)
I'm challenging myself to create one fanwork for every day of December. Fics, icons, rec lists, photo manips, whatever. As long as I create something for each day. I'm mainly going to be focusing on finishing some of my wips, but of course requests are also welcome.

The main reason for this is to make sure I hit some of my progress goals for the year before 2023 is over. But also I haven't been very active in fandom stuff this year and I'd like to at least finish the year with a fun challenge for myself.
pebbleinalake: (sga mcshep)
I'm participating in nanowrimo again this year! I'll be joining as a "NaNoRebel" this time, though. Between a new job, an upcoming surgery, and other personal stuff, there won't be a lot of free time for me in November. So instead of starting a new project and attempting a full 50k words in 30 days, I'll just be picking back up one of my long abandoned WIPs and challenging myself to finish it by the end of the month. Luckily, I found a group of other NaNo rebels on the site forum and we're all going to be breaking the rules together lol. Anyway, I wish a lot of luck to anyone else attempting NaNo this month and hope you get your desired wordcounts! <3

Hey, I actually remembered this week! :)

I've been doing some editing and rewriting on one of my Savifrost fics "Waiting for Tomorrow" so I thought I'd share a little snippet of the scene I'm currently working on. For context, this story takes place in an AU version of the season three finale, in which Savitar and Frost are redeemed. This specific scene takes place in the first chapter, after the big fight/confrontation in the woods, when the heroes gather in STAR Labs to discuss Savitar's fate.

It's halfway through the year now, so it seems like a good time to check in on my 2023 fandom goals and see where I'm at.

Original goal list:
  • Write 50,000 words total
  • Complete at least two of my bingo cards
  • Make 100 new icons
  • Continue writing "Road To War"
  • Finish rewriting/editing "The Chess Master, Part 1"
  • Write at least ten comic reviews
  • Finish chapter five of "To Find Healing"
First, my total word count. I'm currently at 38,420 words for this year. That puts me at well over the halfway mark already. I'm optimistic that I can at least accomplish that goal by the end of the year, even if the others might not be coming along as well, lol.
Second, bingo cards! So far this year, I've completed one prompt on my Fall Bingo card, one on my AFAngst card, and one for my BTHB card. Not great, but I'm hoping to do better this fall.
Third, icon making. That's... not going quite as great as my word count. So far, I've made 39 and the goal is 100. I'm thinking it's time to join a new icon challenge, to help get me motivating and creating more.
Let's not talk about the comic reviews right now. -_- That's something I really want get back into after my move, but I'm just too busy right now to even read comics, let alone review them.
Lastly, WIP updates! I actually have managed to get quite a bit worked on in both "The Chess Master" and "To Find Healing". I'm cautiously optimistic at this point. "Road To War" is still coming along very slowly, but I'm not as worried about that one. It's more of my comfort project that I doubt anyone will read anyway lol.

So yeah, not a bad first half of the year, but I'm hoping to do better in the second half. Fingers crossed! :)

I actually remembered this week! Yay! ;)

So, for WIP Wednesday this week I decided to post a little snippet from a Clois fic that I've had in my projects folder for over two years now. Not because it's a long or involved project, but simply because I've never had the time or motivation to sit down and finish the thing. I'm working on catching up with Superman & Lois now, though, so I hope it will reignite my desire to write for this fandom and maybe then I can sit down and finish all the incomplete S&L fics sitting around my computer.

Anyway, here's the snippet:

Better late than never! I've been posting for this on my personal journal, but I want to do something for the event on this journal as well. I'm going to be posting some icons, fics, and fandom meta this next week. Also, I think I'd like to be more active here on dreamwidth even after the event ends, so I want to start doing weekly fannish posts. I've seen other users here and on tumblr participate in WIP Wednesday and Fannish Friday, so I think I'd like to start doing that as well. So, WIP updates and snippets on Wednesdays and then use Friday as a day to celebrate fandom in general, maybe with some meta posts or fanwork rec lists.

Anyway, happy anniversary Dreamwidth!
