I had a ton of fun doing the FicWIP's "Year in Fanfic" last year, and I saw they posted their new 2025 version on tumblr (here) so I'm giving it a shot. Figured I'd share it here so anyone not on Tumblr could have a chance to snag it and fill it out as well.
Blank template is at the end if anyone else would like to fill out.
1. Including WIPs, how many fics have you worked on since January 1st? Original fiction counts too!
67 fics
2. How many did you post for other people to read?
31
3. What’s something NEW that you tried in a fic?
Tried writing a long multi-chapter fic without an outline. I can do one-shots without knowing exactly where I'm going, but I absolutely need prior planning and outlining for longfics. It was so stressful lol.
4. What piece of media inspired you the most?
Tracker
5. How many fandoms did you write for?
16
6. What ship(s) captured your heart?
None really. I mostly stuck to genfics this year. I did write a few Scira fics (Scott/Kira from Teen Wolf) though.
7. What character(s) captured your heart?
Colter Shaw (Tracker), Charlie Hudson (Hudson & Rex), Kira Yukimara (Teen Wolf)
8. Did you write for any NEW fandoms or ships?
Yes! I wrote for 8 new fandoms this year.
9. What fic meant the most to you to write?
I didn't post this one online anywhere because it really was written solely for me, but I wrote a Psych fic that was a very personal project for me and it meant a lot to get it written out.
10. What fic made you feel the happiest to work on?
I usually only write a fic if I'm having fun exploring it, so I feel like my answer could be "all of them" lol. If I had to pick a favorite, maybe the Hudson & Rex fic I'm currently working on.
11. What fic was the most satisfying to finish?
I was happy to finally get Words From The Forgotten done because it was sitting in my WIP folder for ages now. And also because it involved having to write for two of my favorite Stargate characters and figure out what their dynamic would be like since they never actually met in canon.
12. What fic was the most challenging to work on?
What Would You Trade The Pain For? - a Teen Wolf fic I wrote for a fandom event. It was hard because I don't usually write in present tense, and it centered around a canon event that was really hard to explore because of how much it effected me when I first watched the episode. So, getting it done and posted was a very satisfying moment.
13. What’s the most interesting topic you researched for a fic?
Learning about the Lingala language for an ER fanfic I was writing.
14. What were your shortest and longest fics?
Shortest were some Star Wars drabbles I wrote. Longest is one of my current WIPs at 45,008 words and counting.
15. What was on your writing playlist?
Instead of music, I've found it helpful to listen to writing ambience videos on YouTube. They have ones for every possible scenario, and it really helps put me in the right headspace to write a scene.
16. Where did you write? Was there a favorite spot?
My bedroom, the city library, and a local coffee shop. Favorite spot is definitely the library.
17. What’s your favorite title of the year?
A Random Lottery Of Meaningless Tragedy (which was admittedly stolen from a FOB lyric)
18. Share your favorite opening line
This one from one of my Mythic Quest fics: Ian groaned as he set another box on the floor of the empty bedroom. "Pop, I mean this in the nicest way possible, but you have no life outside of your work, so how do you have this much junk?"
19. Share your favorite ending line
From an ER fanfic: It was simply life. And that made it all so much worse.
20. Share your favorite piece of dialogue
I really like writing dialogue between Flynn and Cassandra from The Librarian franchise. Here's a brief exchange from one of my WIPs featuring them:
“I really messed up,” she admitted quietly.
Flynn smiled. “You’re a Librarian. It comes with the job.”
21. Share the funniest line(s) you wrote this year
I tend to lean more towards sarcasm or dry humor than straight-out humor, so I'm not sure I have anything that I would count as a "funniest" line.
22. Did you get frustrated with a fic at some point? What happened and how did you get past it?
Several. I think the worst instance was when I was writing a multi-chapter fic without an outline and found myself absolutely losing my mind every time I finished a scene and had to sort out what should happen next. Powered through that thing with my sanity barely in tact. Never again; definitely sticking to outlines from now on.
23. If you had to choose one, what was THE most satisfying writing moment of your year?
Probably posting my first Tracker fanfic. It's not a very active fandom, so it was really satisfying to get to contribute towards building up the fic count a bit.
24. Did you do anything special to celebrate finishing something?
Nope. I just pull out a new blank document and start the next fic.
25. Did you create fanworks other than fic? Show one off!
Yes! I created a crazy tone of icons, tumblr graphics, moodboards, fanart, etc this year. The one I'm most proud of is this gifset for the Hudson & Rex show; it's my very first tumblr gifset and means the world to me.
26. How many fannish events did you take part in? Things like bangs, exchanges, ship weeks, zines, prompt memes, etc. They all count!
Four fandom events.
27. Think back on everything you’ve worked on since January and give yourself a compliment. A real one! Be nice to yourself.
I'm proud that I stuck with some of my projects even when they got super hard to work on. I'm a quitter by nature, so that wasn't easy.
28. If this were an awards show, who would you thank?
My local writing group. They're such wonderful people and always there to bounce ideas off of or offer encouragement.
29. What’s left on your to-do list for 2025?
Nothing! I completed my word count goal for 2025 and accepted defeat on the rest of my writing goals lol. Now I'm focusing on my 2026 writing goals.
30. What would you like to write next year?
I'd love to finish my current WIP. Also, I'd like to get more of my older WIPs updated; even if I only get one new chapter each, I'd just like to see some progress on them.
