NaNo Day 16 and I'm finally caught up!! More than that, I'm ahead on my wordcount! My local writing group hosted a twelve hour writing marathon today at a nearby library and we all wrote like crazy. I went into the marathon 7k words behind, and came out almost 1k ahead. So happy right now. My original goal for this year was to simply hit the halfway point, but now I've just hit that and it's only halfway through the month. Maybe this will be the first year I actually complete NaNoWriMo?

Oof, writing is hard. Why is this the hobby I've chosen to let consume my life?

I got off to a decent start this month. On Nov 5th, I was not only on track, but actually ahead of the wordcount goal by a few hundred. Sadly, that didn't last long. Between trouble at work and dealing with a family emergency, I did almost no writing on the 6th and 7th, putting me now several thousand behind.

I've found I write best when writing with a group of friends. Thankfully, my regional group meets twice a week for writing sessions. Hoping I can get at least somewhat caught up at the next writing event. In the meantime, I'll keep trying my best to chip away at the now mountain of words that have piled up in front of me.

On a side note, I've been using the Trackbear app for keeping track of my wordcount and here is the app's summary for where I'm at as of this morning:

Wow! I went into this thinking I'd be happy if I got even 10 or 15 prompts done. Instead, the final tally is over fifty prompts filled! In addition to the prompt lists from the various October tumblr challenges, I also mixed in some prompts for my unfilled bingo cards (because I really need to finally get those done lol).

Anyway, this was an unexpectedly productive month for writing. Let's hope I can keep that momentum going for NaNo!

Takes place immediately after the S2 finale of the tv show. I love how much Flynn cares about the Library and Excalibur, and how much they love him right back, so this is a bit of self-indulgent fluff with my favorite trio. Also, this is inspired by my childhood dog who used to do this to me every time I tried to make her sleep on the floor.

Wow, I'm so out of the loop on internet happenings this year. Just found out today that apparently CoHost is shutting its doors at the end of 2024.

I'm not as upset as I'm sure the active userbase on the site must be (I've only used the site off-and-on since making my account in February) but I am deeply disappointed to see another attempt at an independent social media site go down. As much as I love tumblr and will probably stick with it until its inevitable death, I'm a firm believer that monopolies on any aspect of the internet are a bad thing, so seeing people try to make "alternate tumblrs" was actually great. And tbh CoHost probably came the closest to being a good alternative to tumblr. There were a few areas where I strongly disliked how the site functioned, but it was pretty good overall.

While I hold no personal attachment to CoHost specifically, I am sad to see it go. I'm sad any time a smaller fandom space disappears. Still, the fact that a place like CoHost existed at all is something that I choose to take as an encouraging sign for the future. I'd hate to end up in a world where the only places to interact with fandom are Twitter and TikTok. I hope people will continue trying to make alternate spaces on the internet.
